Hi,
I am fairly new to calibration and hope that you can give me a hint how to solve my calibration problem.
I first set brightness and contrast to fit the optimal grayscale curve in HCFR. Then I adjusted my 9p gamma curve to match the green red and blue curve to the optimal grayscale.
The result was a almost flat gamma curve. Unfortunately I am not at 65k but somwhere below. Is there a way to bring the gamma curve upwards on all gray levels by almost the same amount?
I am calibrating in Color Space 2 and Color Temp 6 with Spyder 3 and HCFR (setting Gamma reference 2.2 and Color standard REC 709 with the AVD Pattern DVD mentioned here in the forum).
If you have any additional questions about my settings (everything kept unchanged and all additional tools like noise reduction, advanced blacks etc. switched off).

Hi,
after fiddling around a lot with the settings on my Pioneer 428DX, I think I had a breakthrough on Sunday...
Gamma was totally messed up before by not taking Pure Cinema Mode 2. But finally I came to an solution that was not that far away from my initial settings that were eyeball calibrated.

Ah, I reached the calibration WITHOUT touching the 9 point gamma control because it seems to fit already... - What do you think? See pictures.
Daylight Calibration
My Questions:
I think the calibration is quite okay and should give already a good picture but...
1. Chart Luminance:
a) I can see that below 50% IRE it is slightly higher and above 50% IRE it is slightly lower than reference. IF I put up contrast and brightness up, I will end up with a too high gamma. How should I correct this? Pitching each color with the 9 point gamma control?
2. Chart CIE
a) Looks quite fine to me, red is slightly oversaturated and blue a little bit of but I barely can't see a difference when changing the parameters.
Comments on the CIE calibration?
3. Chart: Target 6500K, very close... seems to be correct - no need to tweak with the 9 point gamma control
4. Chart: Gamma Average 2.2, The only thing that I would like to correct is the slightly higher gamma value in red.
5. Chart: Color Tracking in Grey Levels - below 4 Delta, should not be visible by the eye.
Comments, Suggestions welcome.

Your CMS G and M are -8 and -5.. try only going -/+ 2 either way for the CMS Controls.
Also, Tint at +12? That seems high.

Yes, with tint I could arrange red and green on the CMS chart and then I could fit the color points with the CMS-Control to the position where they are.
I'll give it another try using your hints of smaller steps.
What is color and tint exactly doing if I change it? It seems that tint shifted my green far more outwards and red more towards blue.
Color sets the saturation of the colors or what does it change?

DanielYou cannot simply use the graphs as a fail safe guide to excellent picture quality, you need to always check with real material during calibration. Calibration is very often about finding the best compromise.
You also need to know the fundamental basics behind the controls in the TV's menus so don't be so impatient to start calibrating, take your time to study the basics first. ;)
Color and Tint are part of the TV's decoder controls, not to make the colors fall correctly in the CIE diagram:
Color sets the luminance of all the primary colors (which is a problem since you often need to set them individually for a perfect result).
Tint sets the hue, i.e. the color's rotation around the white point reference, of all of the secondary colors (same remark as for Color above, but see below).
Color Management in the Pioneer is not a proper CMS (Color Management System), rather it does the same thing as Tint, but it's more advanced giving you some control over individual colors. Problem is, it rather quickly has a negative impact on the gray scale tracking so it should be used very conservatively as Turbe hints at.
