I'm getting ready to use ControlCAL for the first time. For now I will be inputing D-Nice's settings for my Elite 151.
Any advice, suggestions, or warnings?
Thanks!:)

***----------> EDIT 11/03/2008: I posted some updated Step-by-Step Instructions HERE (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2218&postcount=16). <----------***
Hi,
The workflow (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1579&postcount=2) is really for those doing an actual calibration. I suggest you invest in a Meter (Chroma 5 or I1 Pro is recommended on the Pioneers) - see above in the Notices section for options. :D
To just enter settings, you would follow the Procedure Flow:
NOTE: This is assuming you have Enabled Auto Send (disabled by default) and Disabled (uncheck) Error Dialogs (found under Settings in the Menu).
Run ControlCAL.
Setup Serial Port Settings (first time only)
Load P2 Profile for your Display Type.
Start in Standby
Press POWER ON Button (wait until Display Powers on).
Press the START CALIBRATION Button (should now be in ISFccc Interface).
Select Input (from drop-down list) and Press SET Button next to Input Control.
Press ISF DAY MODE, ISF NIGHT MODE or ISF AUTO MODE Button.
Press the large REFRESH Button (main ControlCAL Window next to SEND ALL) to 'get' the current settings for P2's Controls from your Display.
Adjust each Control (i.e. Color Space = 2, Pure Cinema = 2, Color Temp = 6 etc.).
Press the SAVE Button.
Load P1 Profile for your Display Type.
Press the large REFRESH Button (main ControlCAL Window next to SEND ALL) to 'get' the current settings for P1's Controls from your Display.
Adjust each Control (i.e Brightness, Contrast etc).
Press the SAVE Button.
Press the END CALIBRATION Button.
** I think I got all the steps in there..
Start with the P2 Profile and set all those first (i.e. Color Space 2, Pure Cinema 2, Color Temp 6 etc.)
Important: To set the gains/cuts Controls (RGB-HIGH/RGB-LOW), you need to set COLOR TEMP to 6 (Manual).
If you need to set/change the Gamma from 0's, I would have to modify the steps.

D-Nice's ISF Day settings call for the gamma to be set at -1 across the board. Does this change the steps for entering his settings? D-Nice's ISF Night settings leave gamma at 0, so I guess in that case I would follow the above steps.
Thanks for the help.:)

Thanks again!:)
I did find out one thing I've not seen mentioned. It seems it's a good idea to turn off the feature that shuts down the panel when no signal is detected, I guess unless there is a signal present at that input.
I was loading settings into the input where my BD player is connected, which was turned off, and the set started to go into shutdown mode causing ControlCAL to go into a cycle of repeated error messages. I could not stop the messages until I turned off the TV.
I also noticed if I changed a number of settings then selected "send all", some of the changes did not take. I had to make and send each change individually.
When I went to set a second input, it went a bit quicker after a little practice with the first input.:D

That's odd.. are you sure you pressed one of the ISF Mode Buttons (ISF DAY MODE, ISF NIGHT MODE)? Which Settings?

Interesting... I'll have to note this. I guess this is only a problem for those not doing a calibration/just copying settings (since there would always be a signal on the Input when you are doing a proper calibration) and is the reason I never thought of this scenario.

I definately was in the ISF NIGHT MODE. Sorry, I didn't make note of which settings did not take. When I clicked on "send all", I could see the set going through each setting. I think I remember getting a few error messages during the "send all". Any chance it was cycling through them too quick, causing some not to take? I think I may try it again tomorrow and see if it was just user error. It really wasn't a big deal for me since I was just entering settings and not actually doing a calibration. I have ALOT to learn before I'm ready to try that!:D.

Maybe you didn't have Color Temp set to 6 (manual), this Control is above the gains/cuts Controls and will error if Color Temp is not set to 6.
Try setting Color Temp to 6 and press the small SEND button next to that Control.. then use the SEND ALL Button (perhaps, disable Auto Send).
If you have not modified your ControlCAL.ini file, then the Profile is set to 400ms, cycling too fast would not be an issue (you can actually set this to 200 and improve REFRESH/END CALIBRATION performance).

Not yet. Will do that today. However I don't have a plus green issues afaik. Shouldn't I be able to see if I do with controlcal? Isn't it an issue with a setting that Pioneer did?

The only way to tell if you have a plus green set is to measure with a colorimeter and software like CalMAN. ControlCAL can help you correct it, but you can't measure it with ControlCAL.
It is hard to see a plus green set by eye, you need to measure grayscale. I didn't think I had one (August build 151FD), but once I measured, it was plain as day.
Did you notice it making a difference in the picture with everyday viewing?

Did you notice it making a difference in the picture with everyday viewing?
Yeah, a bit. Everything just seems more neutral. I don't want to say it was "less green" because I think grayscale errors affect different tones differently. Before, colors just weren't spot on, especially with Blu-ray. Now, it looks like nothing can be improved upon. It measures great, looks fantastic.

[WHAT YOU NEED:]
A computer running Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, 512MB RAM, Video Card with 32MB minimum, Mouse/Touchpad, Sound Card etc.
Using an Apple Mac? See this Thread (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182).
A Serial Port on a computer will have 9 Male Pins (2 rows, 1 with 5 Pins, 1 with 4 Pins).. Some older computers will have Serial Ports with 25 Male Pins. DO NOT USE the VGA Port (15 Male Pins, 3 Rows).
If your computer doesn't have a open Serial Port (or none at all), you need something like the Keyspan USB to Serial Adapter (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29) or the ControlCAL USB to Serial Adapter that is available bundled with ControlCAL and a Pioneer Configured Serial Cable (link below).
EDIT 1/19/2009: We now have ControlCAL Bundled with the ControlCAL USB to Serial Adapter and Serial Cable (Configured for 8G and 9G Pioneers). Click Here for more information (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173).
Regardless if you need a USB to Serial Adapter or not, you still need a Female DB9 to Female DB9 Straight-Through Configured Serial Cable (included in the new ControlCAL Bundle posted above).
[REQUIRED DOWNLOADS:]
You need to download ControlCAL HERE (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1) (current version is ControlcAL v1.45).
You need the ISFccc Display Profile Set for your specific Model, see HERE (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=48) or choose from this List:
Run the ControlCAL Installer/Setup program (.msi extension) by right clicking it and selecting Install.
You don't Run the Display Profile directly, you need to Run ControlCAL (the .EXE) and then Open/Load the Display Profile into ControlCAL (MENU/FILE/OPEN).
NOTE: It is recommended that you unplug your Display's Power Cord when plugging in any cables including the Serial Cable to the back of the Display. Once you have your Serial Cable connected to the Display and your computer, plug the Power Cord into the electrical socket.
Attach the cable/cables (one end of the Serial Cable goes to your computer or Keyspan and the other end of the Serial Cable goes to the back of your Pioneer Display to the Port labeled "SERVICE ONLY"). Start/Run ControlCAL (see the first step below) and Open/Load a Display Profile (see the second step below) - I suggest Part 2 of the Display Profile Set first, select MENU/SETTINGS/PORT SETTINGS and make sure you select the COM Port for your Serial Port/USB to Serial Adapter. You should only have to do this once.
Important! The first thing you should do is verify that you can Power On/Off your Display with the Power Buttons located on the Display Profile. If you cannot Power On/Off your Display with this method, you have a Cable/Port issue and you should not/cannot continue.
I suggest you download, print and read the ISFccc Documentation (in MS Word format) attached to this POST (http://www.controlcal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1435&postcount=2).
TIP: Verify you have the Power Control/No Signal Off Option disabled on your Pioneer (this will prevent the Display from powering off if there is no Input Signal present for several minutes).
NOTE: THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW ARE FOR THOSE USING THE PIONEER ISFCCC DISPLAY PROFILES ONLY!!!!!
[ACTIVATING AN ISFccc MEMORY AND ENTERING POSTED SETTINGS - STEP BY STEP:]
To enter Posted Settings and activate a ISFccc Memory (i.e. isf Night), follow the instructions below:
Start/Run ControlCAL (i.e. Double Left-Click on the file named: ControlCAL v1-45).

Configure ControlCAL to enable Auto Send (MENU/SETTINGS/AUTO SEND, make sure Auto Send is Checked).
Configure ControlCAL to disable Error Dialogs (MENU/SETTINGS/ERROR DIALOGS, make sure Error Dialogs is NOT Checked).
Open/Load Part #2 of the ISFccc Display Profile (P2) for your Display Model (i.e. MENU/FILE/OPEN and Select Pioneer_9G_C3_Regions1_v0-4_P2.cdp).
Start with the Display in Standby/Off.
Press POWER ON Button (wait until Display Powers on).
Press the START CALIBRATION Button (should now be in ISFccc Interface).
Select Input (from drop-down list) and Press SET Button next to Input Control.
Press ISF DAY MODE or ISF NIGHT MODE or ISF AUTO MODE Button.
Press the large REFRESH Button (main ControlCAL Window next to SEND ALL) to 'get' the current settings for P2's Controls from your Display.
Adjust each Control (i.e. Color Space = 2, Pure Cinema = 2, Color Temp = 6 etc.). NOTE: COLOR TEMP=6 IS REQUIRED FOR SETTING RGB-HIGH (DRIVE) AND RGB-LOW (CUTOFF) CONTROLS.
*If you need to change the default Gamma values of 0, select Gamma Point (i.e. 1) from drop-down list - Profile Extras window, adjust each Channel (i.e. R-GAMMA, G-GAMMA, B-GAMMA). REPEAT FOR EACH GAMMA POINT (1-9).
Press the SAVE Button (located on the Profile Extras window).
Open/Load Part #1 of the ISFccc Display Profile (P1) for your Display Model (i.e. MENU/FILE/OPEN and Select Pioneer_9G_C3_Regions1_v0-4_P1.cdp)..
Press the large REFRESH Button (main ControlCAL Window next to SEND ALL) to 'get' the current settings for P1's Controls from your Display.
Adjust each Control (i.e Brightness, Contrast etc).
Press the SAVE Button (located on the Profile Extras window).
Press the END CALIBRATION Button.
IMPORTANT - If you type a value in the white boxes next to a Control/Slider, you must press the small SEND button next to that white Box (Auto Send and SEND ALL have no affect). You can also click on the Slider Handle and use the keyboard right/left arrow keys (changes will be sent automatically on each keypress with Auto Send enabled).
* In many cases, you will not need to change the Gamma Controls and this Step can be skipped.
If you have any suggestions for this guide, please let me know.

I finally had the opportunity to use ControlCal and I wanted to
say how easy it was to use.:)
I have to admit I was a little nervous before trying because I
am not very computer savy but I followed the excellent instructions
and input ISF night and ISF day settings rather easily.
My next step will be this weekend with Calman and my I1pro for
a full calibration.
Many thanks to Turbe for the excellent info he provides here and
D-Nice for his terrific settings.

A couple of questions:
1. My ControlCal file is ControlCAV v1_41. It does not have the RC4 b23.exe following it as shown in post #16 above. Do I have the current file?
2. I do not have ControlCAL.ini as shown in post #16 above. Is this something that will only appear after connecting to the TV? I have not tried connecting yet.
Thanks,

v.1.41 Final's exe is: ControlCAL v1_41.exe
RC4 b23.exe is an old Build and you should delete that file.
If the ControlCAL.ini file isn't found, ControlCAL simply uses defaults. You probably didn't extract/copy that file into your ControlCAL directly.

Basically:
Load P2.
Press START CALIBRATION.
Select Input.
Select ISFccc Memory to Copy From (isf Night, isf Day, isf Auto).
Press REFRESH.
Select Input (no need if you are going to copy from a ISFccc Memory to another on the same Input).
Select ISFccc Memory to Copy To (isf Night, isf Day, isf Auto).
Press SEND ALL.
Press SAVE.
Load P1.
Select Input (no need if you are going to copy from a ISFccc Memory to another on the same Input) - Same as Step 3 above.
Select ISFccc Memory to Copy From (isf Night, isf Day, isf Auto) - Same as Step 4 above.
Press REFRESH.
Select new Input (no need if you are going to copy from a ISFccc Memory to another on the same Input) - Same as Step 6 above.
Select ISFccc Memory to Copy To (isf Night, isf Day, isf Auto) - Same as Step 7 above.
Press SEND ALL.
Press SAVE.
Press END CALIBRATION.
NOTE: SEND ALL does not send all 9 Gamma Points, just the currently selected Point. You would need to manually update your Gamma Points (if needed).

I'm guessing that if you want to rest the setting back to original value, you would simply put original value (obtained from Send All) back in and resend to your display?

Yes, when you first load/open a Profile, the values shown on the Controls are the defaults.
Also, you can use the RESET CURRENT Button to do this.. however note that on a few models the 9 Point Gamma controls get reset to 0, not 5 which are the defaults (which is a bug).
