I have only 1 newer laptop for ControlCAL, that is running Windows 2000 Pro/Service Pack 4 (compared with the other older spare laptops I use for such things as Engine Control Management/ECM Emulation/engine tuning, security setting changes, wide-band o2 calibration updates etc) . On the Windows 2000 laptop I was having some problems with .dll files missing when I attempted to run ControlCAL, so I replaced those missing .dll's with those off my Windows XP only to get yet another missing .dll, replaced that one then get other odd complaints. Not wanting to load down this forum with tons of problems I instead did lots of internet searches, and of all the places, I found a bunch of Gammers having the exact same .dll errors and such. After reading posts after post about this from 2003 till 2006 (long read) it boiled down to those Windows owners having older DirectX version, or too new of ones; version 9.x (mine was Ver 4.0 :o) that were not ready/compatible with their gaming programs, and the last update for DirectX being version 9.x having its own problems, the solution was to download and install (the only one available anymore since 2000 is no longer supported) an older version; DirectX Version 8.1 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7F54EBD3-00D1-47BC-81DB-3157FBA4C3A7&displaylang=en
I burned it on a CD off my desktop, installed it on my laptop only to have some of the same errors......I knew I was on the right road so sat and thunk about it, hey what if the newer XP version .dlls still in my ControlCAl Folder that I transfered to my laptop's 2000 were still in the way?....so I just renamed those .dll files extensions to .old. After that I retried running ControlCal and SWEEEEET, smoothing running as silk every since. Lots of lessons learned!
Hope this helps someone in the future using the powerful "Search" feature:thumbsup:.
