View Full Version : Request Looking for PRO-101FD settings

Hi all,
From everything I've read, it seems like the PRO-101FD is not nearly as popular as the 111FD. There seem to be a large number of settings posted for both the 111FD and the 151FD.
While I'm not surprised that these settings outnumber the Signature panels, I am surprised that I can't find ANY settings to try.
I've reached the point where I am ready to either play with ControlCal settings or get my set professionally calibrated. But, obviously the first option is a lot cheaper, so I'd like to see what results I can get.
So, if there is anyone out there with a 101FD that would be willing to post their settings, I'd be quite grateful. I very well may do my own calibration one day, but the equipment seems about as expensive as getting a professional calibration done.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. :)

I know there are other 101 owners, we just need to get some calibration equipment in their hand (and/or yours).. :D
What AV Selection have you been using?

I've been sticking almost exclusively with Pure mode. I am certainly not unhappy with the picture. Of course, I just want it to look as amazing as possible. :)
We 101 owners must be a quiet bunch...

Since the 500m and 101 share the same panel would those settings be useful? However, not sure if those settings have been posted or not...:D

wrong, according to pioneer, pro101 has hand pick components over 500m
pro101 is pro111 which is missing audio & stand.
rest of the set is same. I might be wrong but read this sveral times.

No, only the 50" (PRO-101FD)
Here are my Pro-101FD settings for ISF-Day and Pure modes calibrated with an I1 Pro meter (Calman PDFs attached).
Since I calibrated with an I1 Pro, the darkest readings indicate much higher than we all expect of Kuro. I do have an I1D2 meter and it reads 0.0000. Unfortunately, by the time I profile the I1D2 with the I1 Pro, the D2 starts becoming a bit erratic with continuous readings jumping above and below the correct reading. Since this does not happen when calibrating my LCD, I suspect that the D2 can't handle the heat from a plasma, even with repeated initializations.
The readings below were read from the monitor using KuroReader after around 500 hours of regular daily use on a mixture of viewing material, no special break-in.

I'm going to jump on the Pro 101-FD bandwagon and say hello to all the other owners. I just finished calibrating the ISF night/day. Very nice. Thanks to all the 101-FD specific posts of your calibrations.
One question about ISF auto - does any have specific calibration settings or are you using ISF-day with the light sensor on ?
Thanks
I calibrated Pure and ISF day with the light sensor turned off. I did copy the ISF day settings to ISF Auto and tried that for a while. AUTO does use the light sensor and does a good job adjusting to lighting conditions, however, I still prefer Pure mode. My family room does not get too bright in the day time so with Pure mode I am sure that gamma and grayscale are always correct.

jebj, why don't you calibrate isf Night to the same light output as your Pure and report.. :)
I plan to do a complete calibration of both ISF modes and Pure mode between Christmas and New Years. I originally calibrated both ISF modes and Pure mode after about 200 hours but I could see that the picture was changing quite a bit during the break-in period. When I did the recal around 500 hours, I never got around to ISF night. I'll post my updated results before the New Year.
Here is an update that includes ISF-Night Mode

I just had inputs 5 and 6 calibrated and isf day and night activated on my Pioneer Elite Pro-101FD. Once the ISF day and night mode is activated and calibrated do the settings have to be applied to each resolution setting of 480i, 480p, 720p etc? The reason I ask this is all of the other modes like pure have to be set by input and signal. Meaning 720p and 1080i have to be set individually of each other. I would think that once the ISF modes are set and locked it would apply to all of the resolutions.

Hi,
ISFccc memories apply to all Resolutions/Signals on that Input.

Thanks for the reply. I figured it applied to all resolutions but just wanted to double check.

Is it correct to say that Control Cal is used to activate ISF modes and for entering the settings and doesn't do the actual calibrating? I had my set professionally calibrated and they used Control Cal for opening the ISF modes and for the settings. The calibration was done with Colorfacts Pro for the measurements. Is this a good piece of software for the calibrating?
Thanks

:hiya:
ControlCAL is used with Calibration Software (like Colorfacts, CalMAN etc). ControlCAL 'talks' to the display, the Calibration Software 'talks' to the meter and optionally to the pattern sources.
Colorfacts has been discontinued (long ago), there are Calibrators using it still but many have moved to CalMAN which supports doing gamut work (without external calculations) and supports more meters and pattern sources than any other Calibration Software (past or present). Another reason many have moved to CalMAN is for its reporting options.
Floridaman
04-20-2010, 09:35 PM
Thanks for the quick response. Since Colorfacts was used by the calibrator does that mean I didn't get as accurate of a calibration that I would have gotten with Calman?
Turbe
04-20-2010, 09:48 PM
No, that is not what I was trying to say, though when it comes to accuracy, CalMAN is currently King
Sitting under the hood of CalMAN is our exclusive Calibration Optimization and Reporting Environment (CORE) engine. Written exclusively using 64-bit double-precision floating point math, the CORE engine outperforms even popular spreadsheet applications for calculation accuracy because it never has to drop to single-precision or integer operations for convenience or speed purposes.
The CORE engine also includes advanced matrix operations and statistical techniques so that CalMAN users do not suffer from errors and inaccuracies caused by unnecessary rounding of critical input variables or by the use of inappropriate or inefficient estimation models. CalMAN typically uses >12 decimal places for key variables like XYZ-to-RGB matrices, where previously users might have been limited to four or fewer. Wherever possible, the CORE engine computes such critical values, rather than relying on outside files or tables.
