so there are 4 cooling fans on the back of my 111 and I know how turbe has control over things like the ISFccc and the use hours as well as turning the side bars black

so I was wondering if there is a way to turn these fans on

reason for asking is because I can measure the temp as between 119-140 deg F and the fans never turn on - it is known that the closer to room temp electronics are the better - so if there is any way to turn these on than them temp could be lower than 100 deg F and that would be good

The fans start going on 49 C or so with all 4 on at 60C or so. This is an intellegint process that speeds them up as the temperature gets hotter. The temperatures that we see using control cal are higher than actual ones due to the position of the sensor near the TV's internal computer. The fan "on" is calibrated to the actual temp. After going on the fans do not turn off will not turn off until 43 is reached.

See page 83 of the 6020 service manual for this.

I did not see how to change this in the service mode.

I would keep the room temperature measured 1 ft above the set above the set at 85F or below. Doing that -you should be fine.

no the temp I am getting is from using a infra-red touch less thermometer and moving it over the vent holes on the top of the TV

it is warm not hot but it would extend the life of the display if it is kept at a constant temp give or take 10deg F at most - at this point it is 70deg F in the room and the display is putting out between 120-140 deg F depending on where the measurement was taken

I have even debated asking a authorized Pioneer repair center to come out and open the back up so I can install some quiet 500RPM fans in the other open spaces and power them externally - the stock fans would still be there and only turn on if it got really hot, but at 500RPM's they would be quiet if not silent compared to the buzz these sets make - but it would have to NOT void the warranty hence the Pioneer repair center can open these up and repair them without voiding the warranty so why not install fans that are powered externally so long as it dont mess with the TV in a bad way, and I cant see how it could if done correctly

I just like my electronics to be cool not warm, for the most part they run more efficiently that way and save power

Cooler is usually better. Electronics likes to be at 35-40 c or so. I am using a quiet (29 db) exhaust fan on the wall above the set -venting in to the space between thev walls to keep things cool. However the plasma panel itself I think will always get hot at its surface.

Have you looked at the temperature you measure as a function of energy mode? I am using energy saving mode most of the time (except for blu-ray ) and this keeps the temp (measured by my thermometer about 1' above the set at a hot point) down a bit without too much of a compromise in the picture.

Your idea is interesting. Please let post on how it works out.

it seems that the fans should be able to be turned on manually for testing - I havent seen they move so how do I know if they even work without heating up the display - most cooling fans in things turn on for a sec or so when the power is turned on then turn off or slow down - these do neither

I did not see that in the manual-but that does not mean there is not a command to start them and then return them to the correct state. Perhaps Shawn will update the profile with a fan control setting.

yea that would be nice to see if it is possible to do hopefully with speed controls so its not just on high speed all the time

I am not worried about the noise it should be quiet but if not than maybe I will try getting ones installed that are quiet powered externally
