ControlCAL not working on KRP500A

My setup:

Plasma:Pioneer KRP500A (UK edition)
Technical Info: S/W version: 0907-0401, H/W version: 0x353

Registered ControlCAL (Personal)
Profile: 9G Pioneer C3 Display Profiles Regions1 v0.4
Port settings: 9600, 8-N-1
Auto Send, Error dialogs off

Operating System:
Windows XP, Direct connection to COM1 (No USB adaptors)

Problem: ControlCAL is unable to power off/power on the plasma.

Solutions attempted:
I have tried 2 different laptops, also tried 2 different DB9 cables, but no success.
Checked Pioneer TV settings, this is set to 9600

Can anyone confirm that they have used ControlCAL to connect to KRP500A with the above firmware?
Anything that I have missed? Any suggestions?

It's either a Serial Port issue or cable but I'm pretty sure it's the cable...

Also, we have our USB Serial Adapter and Serial Cable (configured for the Pioneers) for $35 (plus a little extra $ for shipping to the UK).
