I just got a new Vista 32 bit laptop to replace my XP laptop. I did my first 111FD calibration on the new laptop today, and ran into a serious problem. When I have both ControlCAL and CalMAN running at the same time and I am using CalMAN, it will freeze up tight within 5 minutes. The pointer won't move and control-alt-delete won't work. If I start CM first, take some measurements, then start CC, within 5 min of starting CC it happens. If I start CM and operate it without starting CC, it doesn't happen. I tried starting CC first, then CM, but it still does it. I limped along and finished the cal by repeatedly starting CC up, making the adjustments, saving and ending the session, exiting, and then starting CM up to measure the results. It was a frustrating process.
I use an FTDI USB-to dual serial adapter, with com 5 going to CC and com 4 going to CM to control my pattern generator. I downloaded the newest FTDI driver from 2009 and installed it, but it didn't help. I've done many calibrations with otherwise the same setup but on my old XP laptop with no problems.
What can I do?

It could be USB Adapter drivers.. I'd try setting the COM Port in ControlCAL to an invalid Port. Try running both apps with CM only using the Serial Port (actually try reversing this and enabling the COM Port on CC and disabling on CM) - see if the lockup occurs. I have seen reports of issues with manu USB Serial Adapters and/or their drivers.

Also, verify that the current Video drivers are install and DirectX. How much video memory is dedicated to the Video Card?

I have not had any issues running both on Vista 32 Bit (though my primary is XP), I'll try it also using their DPG (so, I1 Pro, Pioneer and USB-UIRT on USB / Serial).

Do you have another USB port available? Perhaps I will send you one of our USB Serial Adapters for testing.
