12.08.2009 - BIG EDIT
12.12.2009 - Settings found in posts #1 and #2 are to be considered outdated and inaccurate. When I performed those calibrations, I touched the CMS controls for last and did not check their effect on gamma. It was devastating. New and better settings can be found in posts #3 and #4.
27.02.2010 - New and improved settings can be found attached to post #7. This time I worked with CalMAN and my i1 Pro to perform a regular, full-blown ISF calibration on my Kuro. Now both ISF-DAY and ISF-NIGHT apply to the rec709 standard and differ from each other in terms of light output.
I could borrow a meter from a friend of mine and managed to finally perform a proper calibration on my set. Here is what I got so far:
Model: PDP-LX6090
Player: BDP-LX71*
* The BDP-LX71 is known to share the same video processing hardware as the BDP-LX52 and BDP-LX08, which should therefore be expected to perform equally. An italian user who owns both the BDP-LX71 and Sony PS3 measured the same gamma and grey scale performance on them with a meter.

12.12.2009 - As stated in post #1, these settings are outdated and inaccurate. Check post #4 for new and improved ISF-Night settings. Please bear in mind that my ISF-Night settings are really the same as my ISF-Day settings in terms of light output, the only difference being ISF-Day applies to the HD standard (rec709) and ISF-Night applies to the SD standard (PAL / SECAM).

Comments:
* Average gamma: 2.22
* Max light output: 94 cd/m2 (27ftL)
*The gamut was measured against the HD reference standard (rec709) but these settings can actually be used with either HD or SD indifferently. There ain't much I can do about the gamut and it is actually closer to PAL / SECAM than to rec709. Color was set so that the Y value of a 100% red pattern would be 21% of that of a 100% white pattern.
* More light output could probably be achived by leaving the HighGREEN cut untouched, but this calibration was performed at 2am and I was too tired to try a different setting. +2 HighRED and +8 HighBLUE should do the trick or get you pretty close. I watch movies in a completely darkened enviroment anyway, so I can settle for 27ftL (also, I can use ISF whenever I feel like more light).

ISF-Day (rec709)

Comments:
* Average gamma: 2.24
* Max light output: 140 cd/m2 (40.86ftL)
* As I said while commenting my "MOVIE" mode calibration, there ain't much that can be done about the gamut. Once again, Color was set with the 100% white / 21% red trick. Touching the CMS destroys gamma beyond repair.
* If a way to achive greater light output is there, I don't know it. In my completely darkened environment, 140 cd/m2 are already a lot and I sometimes find "MOVIE" mode more relaxing for my eyes. When I claimed 151 cd/m2 for my previous setting, I was reading ColorHCFR's charts in XYZ rather than xyY so it was probably much less than that.
ISF-Night (PAL / SECAM)

Comments:
* Average gamma: 2.22 (IIRC)
* Max light output: 139 cd/m2 (40.56ftL)
* The LX6090 seems to be better at PAL / SECAM than at rec709 when it comes to color decoding. As stated above, I avoided touching the CMS, lest I render my gamma and luminance charts unto utter desolation.
* Red appears to be a little low on the RGB tracking chart, but: a) averaging dark readings on low IRE windows would have probably yielded more linear results and b) the EyeOne LT is known to have a red push on 9G KUROs so that would be fine anyway. All delta Es are below 2.

Hi, :hiya:
What Pattern source(s) did you use, for both your PAL source(s) and HD Source(s)?
EDIT: I see you posted AVS HD 709, what Pattern Source(s) did you use for PAL?
Your Player may be a upconverting type and converting the colorspace (though it could be doing it incorrectly). Have you tried using ColorHCFR's Patterns for PAL?

Hi Turbe! :hiya:
I used AVS HD709 for both PAL and HD. I had tried ColorHCFR's patterns DVD before, but it yielded different results than AVS HD709 on the grey scale and it bugged me (also, I wanted to be able to compare the light output figures I was getting for PAL and HD, which required using similarly sized windowed patterns).
I am quite confident my BD player is of the upconverting type. HDMI Color space was set to YCbCr 4:4:4. IIRC, CUE patterns showed no sign of imperfection so it probably handles it right :)

I finally managed to recalibrate my Kuro with CalMAN and the i1 Pro meter I bought last month. The meter was recertified by X-rite in Switzerland on 12th February 2010. You can find settings for ISF-DAY and ISF-NIGHT attached below, together with a CalMAN report for ISF-DAY (I didn't bother remeasuring ISF-NIGHT just for reporting).
In the meanwhile, I changed my bluray player from Pioneer's BDP-LX71 to OPPO's BDP-83SE. I found they both perform identically in terms of gamma, grey scale and color performance (with the OPPO being ever so slightly better at color decoding), so basically nothing had to be touched in the settings after replacing the player.
Since both players are of the upconverting type, I realized there was no need to have two different calibrations for rec709 and PAL/SECAM and I therefore went for a "regular" ISF-DAY and ISF-NIGHT calibration instead.
ISF-DAY has a linear 2.2 gamma curve and yeilds above 150 cd/m2 (43.77 ftL) with a Contrast setting of 35. ISF-NIGHT also has a linear 2.2 gamma curve but yeilds slightly more than 110 cd/m2 (32.1 ftL) with a Contrast setting of 28. I personally like my picture to be bright and punchy, so I always watch my content in ISF-DAY despite having my setup in a completely darkened environment.
As for the gamut, a huge advantage CalMAN offers over ColorHCFR is the possibility to see how your colors' dE*94 is actually distributed among luminance (dL), saturation (dC) and hue (dH). Selecting Color Space 2 and minimizing red's overall dE*94 by means of the Color control, I could witness the following:
All colors have nearly perfect luminance values (dL less than 2), which is awesome considering how sensitive human eyes are to this component of chromaticity;
All colors share a very good degree of saturation (dC less than 3) except blue and magenta, which are both far off and impossible to correct with the Kuro's CMS;
All secondaries have nearly perfect hue, whereas red slightly exceeds dH 3, green is slightly below 3 and blue is halfway between 2 and 3. In consideration of this, I would deem touching secondaries in the Kuro's CMS fairly useless. Touching primaries, on the other hand, leads to undefeatable linearity issues that should be avoided.
Overall, a Kuro's color performace is nothing short of very good.
