***note...if you don't know what you are doing in the service menu, DON'T GO INTO IT!!!!!
The service menu is specifically used for setting the RGB cuts and drives for grayscale adjustment which you really need a colorimeter like the i1 Display2 to accurately adjust your grayscale, which directly adjusts your set to D65 or 65k color temperature.
This is specific for the HL167 series, but works on other series as well.
Hold Mute on the remote, at the same time, press Menu on the side of the TV.
This enters you into the service menu...CH+,- goes through the settings, Vol+,- changes value.
Warning: Jot down ALL default values for your TV before changing anything. You want a record of the default settings if you want to go back to the default values for any reason, i.e. if you accidentally change a value you don't want to mess with
Check my signature for a spreadsheet I created with different settings you can try on your set. They all include service menu tweaks for grayscale, check your firmware for a match (only my settings were set with a colorimeter for accurate grayscale, on the warm color temp setting. Warm color temp is closest to D65)

I recently bought a 52" Toshiba 52XF550U LCD display on line from Costco; haven't been happy with this set because of one huge problem (for me anyway, although there are other problems as well...like redish cloudiness that can be seen all over the screen with the set on but no active signal, and less than stellar blacks reproduction): magenta redish and greenish discolorations that clearly affects the active image...and never mind B&W pictures--what a visual mess!
Having said that...my question is: will having the set calibrated properly to
address the issue with grayscale deviations from true D65 get rid of such pesky discolorations?
Would like to get an educated opinion before I take it back to Costco since I am still within the 90-day return period and, since I just purchased an Elite Kuro Pro-151FD plasma display (which it has an slight problem of its own: "green push" :( ), an answer to my question is essential because I'd like to keep the 550U LCD set for everyday television viewing, relegating the KURO set to a more serious pursuit: movies viewing...with an occasional game or special program in HD.
Your response will be immensely appreciated!... :)

Hello elcid,
A calibration of your Toshiba will help assist with the discolorations that you are seeing; however, it will more than likely not rid you of the issue. In our experience we have found that the Samsung and Sony LCDs perform the best post-calibration and have minimized some of these issues. Ultimately, the technology is not perfect, but it is getting there.
Is it possible for you to trade the Toshiba in for a Samsung or Sony LCD?
As for the Pioneer Kuro, a calibration can help correct the "Green Push" I believe you are seeing as well as attain a more accurate image.
All the Best,
Dave

Hi, Dave,
Hey...I know who you are! :D You're the person I will be seeking to get the 151FD calibrated when the time comes! I live about 60 miles East of LA on the way to Palm Springs, so it won't be too long of a drive. :)
As for the Tosh LCD set...am taking it back.
Perhaps I find something else there worth considering...perhaps even a Vizio plasma if it's around the same price and comparable size.
You know, as much as am enjoying the KURO I still think is really too good of a display to be used in the normal TV-watching fashion; that's why I've considered a second set. On the other hand, perhaps I should get the Sony 40XBR-800 CRT set fixed (the PS went out like in too many cases :( )...

Joe, would love to download that spreadsheet, in that I just bought a refurbed 52Hl167, but the link doesn't work. Any chance you could email it to me?
