Anyone Using the X-Rite DTP-94

I was wondering if anybody is using the DTP-94, and if they have done comparisons to the i1D2 or i1Pro. I was wondering because Integrated-Color who produces Color-Eyes, arguably the best computer monitor calibration software, claims they are still the most accurate to date, and continues to bundle them with their software. Just wondering if anybody has tried one on a plasma and how it fared against the i1 family.

While I decided to pull the trigger and picked up an Xrite Optix XR (DTP-94). I am kind of on a color craze right now due to some new computer monitors that have been giving me issues with iMatch, as well as a need for better profiles for a medium format printer. So I have decided to use the 2 KRP 500's I just picked up to do a little test on cheap meters for the DIY guy. Personally I don't trust the hype behind $$$ software and meters (minus the true professional $x,xxx meters) so I'm going to test it myself.

Will let you what I find out.

I have two DTP-94s, one was an old meter off ebay, the other I bought new old stock. The new meter is a DTP-94B. I used them to calibrate my Pioneer PDP-6010FDs that I had. I then had an ISF calibration where an iOne Pro was used. The first TV was close, but the calibrator spent about two hours tweaking it and it was better to my eyes when he was done.

The second TV was so close, after running one time through gray scale and primary and secondary colors, he said he could do no better and left the set alone. I attribute that to luck more than anything else as I really did not know what I was doing.

I have since sold the 6010s and replaced them with two Pro-151FDs. In the year since I calibrated the 6010s, I could not remember which meter I liked best. So I have spent the week trying to adjust pure mode on the TVs. I was able to obtain a decent grey scale with both meters, but only with the newer DTP-94B meter was I able to get decent flesh tones. The older meter tended to make flesh tones slightly green or brown. Of course flesh tones changes depending on source, like satellite or BluRay disc, OTA, etc.

Anyway, I have put the older meter away and am using the 94B exclusively on the 2008 151. The other is a 2009 model and has strange gamma and I will be paying for that to be calibrated after it finishes break-in.

How do you tell if it is a "B" meter? I just picked up an NOS Monaco XRITE-XR.
